MENTAL CAPACITY ACT INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR CARERS The new Mental Capacity Act sets out what should happen when someone lacks the capacity to make decisions. This could be because of a brain injury or stroke, dementia, learning disability, mental health problems, alcohol or drug misuse , the side effects of medical treatment or any other illness or disability that affects someone's decision making processes. If you are a carer for someone over 16 who is unable to make some or all decisions which affect them .... YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ACT! As a carer of an adult it is important you are aware of the Act and its implications in relation to the person you care for. It will have a far reaching effect on how you and professional care workers communicate, both with the person who may lack capacity and with each other. Included in the sessions will be information to cover the key elements of the Act, such as:-
Sessions will be informal with the chance to ask questions and get information relating to your individual needs. A Carers Support Worker from the Care Network will be on hand if you wish to ask for specific information or advice, or discuss your own circumstances. There will also be plenty of time to meet and chat with other carers during the refreshment breaks. Sessions at 1 Riverside Cottages, Radstock Tuesday 26th February 10am - 12pm and 1:30pm - 3:30pm Sessions at St Lukes's Church Hall, Wellsway, Bath Thursday 20th March 10am - 12pm and 1:30pm - 3:30pm Contact us on 01761 431388 or 01761 431389 for further details
